I've been working on these damn brakes for some time now!
New Masterand wheel cyls, shoes, hoses, springs, barings(sp) New front drums, turned rears!
Okay, got it all together and went to adjust and bleed, got to the left rear and the sucker wont budge!!!??? Tried to pull the drum off to see whats wrong, nope!
Help me out here guys, I got to get this bucket on the road, I don't like riding my motorcycle in the rain to much!
THANKS,
BWD

Dave, need more info...what won't budge? the wheel won't turn, or what. Also, have you tried backing off the star nut adjusters?

The wheel will move with lots of force, like the brakes are on, the stars are backed all the way in (off)I took off the axle nut to pull the drum off, but, it's(the drum) locked on there! The drum went on easy enough, thats why I'm confused!

Is your emergency brake on?

No

That's bizarre. On some year bugs you can look through the little hole in the backing plate and see if your shoes need replacing...can you see through the hole if the shoes are actually locked tight against the drum? Maybe apply some heat or cold to the drum to get it to expand or contract? Good luck. Let us know what you find...I'm always getting in jams like this one with my VW...end up whaling away with a hammer and breaking something.

HA HA! Yeah, I started doing that too, then I thought "hey asshole your going to fuck it more" and came to my sences!
It's probibly something lame I did wroung!
Keep you posted.
Any more ideas?

Dave, if you installed new cyls and shoes on the rear and the drum slid into place easy and the wheel/drum spun then...

Then after pumping up the brakes to bleed ect the brakes locked and the drum is tight, most likely it is the rubber brake hose for that wheel. the fluid passed through when you bleed it out but it has a tear internally acting like a check valve that won't release the pressure.

Open the bleed screw and if the wheel turns then, I am correct. If not,.... then the wheel cylinder may be defective/stuck (pistons can pop out or cock when first bleeding if shoes are not adjusted out enough) or something else in the way you installed the e- brake bar and or harware...
good luck! K

I see you said hoses, did you replace the rears or just the front?????

BWD Thu Dec 05, 2002 8:15 am

All hoses!
Thanks Keifernet, I'll look into that when I get home tonight.;)
