The Bentley manual says to put molybdenum disulfide grease on the main shaft of the transmission where it hooks into the engine. When I went to the auto parts store I did not see any grease listed as molybdenum disulfide. I did however see some labeled "moly" is this the same thing? Do I want that particular grease or will any high temp heavy duty grease suffice?
Thanks
Big Al

If you mean the output shaft into the pilot bearing all you need to use is a high quality axle grease

Thanks, I appreciate it.

As Hox said, you can use a dab of normal hi-temp wheel bearing grease - the only time this bearing sees any "action " is when you have you foot on the clutch and so the gearbox shaft is turning at a different rate to the engine, so it's not critical on grease type.

Yes - Moly grease is Molybenum Disulphide grease.

Castrol LMM is one good example of Moly grease, which is used in the CV joints on IRS cars and all the front ball joints (though most of them don't have zerks to add grease these days... my original 68 ball joints do). Moly grease is always black and VERY sticky, so it's easy to identify.

Castrol LM is a lithium wheel bearing grease suitable for VW wheel bearings and front torsion bars. It's also used on the greased rear wheel bearings on IRS cars.
