I am building/reusing a camper box based on the SO-42. I have a wardrobe cabinet out of a bay that I want to use. However I will have to cut/modify the cabinet. Would someone be so kind as to take a number of pictures of the SO-42 wardrobe cab so I can see a few details? Front, side, rear (inside and out). Additionally, I'd like to see detailed pictures of the head banger and how it sits on the corner and wardrobe. I have the camperbox manual but it's hard to tell anything from drawings.

i put a 1970 closet in my 65. it was 5" too long. i disassembled the end and cut 5" off and reinstalled the piece for rear. some other minor trims were needed but were obvious when closet was being set in position.

Thank you so much for the searches. I found a lot of what I was looking for. I really appreciate the extra effort to help me and not just the perfunctory response of "use the search function." Just for the record, I truly suck at the searching on this site. I never find anything I'm looking for or else I'm overwhelmed with the responses. :cry:

Thank you for your help. I could see by my dry fit that I would have to trim off the back (toward the hatch) end some. When you cut yours down did the positioning of the rear door of the cab look funny? What I mean is the door seems to be centered right now, by cutting I'm afraid it might off-set it too much. If you wouldn't mind could you post a picture or send it to me of the side? I'd like to see what the end product will look like.

It's been a little while since I started this project and I am now fully committed. I have purchased two very rough SO42 pieces (head banger and small corner cabinets) and have completely refinished them to include putting new wood grain laminate on them. The grain doesn't match the original, but I'm fine with that.

Here are a few pictures of my corner cabinet:

Refurb'ed:

I read about people using a wardrobe cabinet out of a bay and modifying it to fit a split. I started down that path and put in WAY too many hours trying to make that happen. First there are many things that don't work.

In this picture you can see that the front door does not match the contour of the bus at all:

In this side by side picture you can see that the divider inside the cabinet does not match the contour either (side note: I have a complete bay cabinet and a back piece from a bay also. I used the back piece to get the measurement for cutting it off before cutting the full length cabinet):

Another big difference in the two cabinets (split and bay) is that the side hatch door is in different positions. The SO42 hatch is much higher.

So now I am building the wardrobe from scratch using the outer dimensions of the bay cabinet as a template. However I need a little help from someone with an original SO42 wardrobe. I'm hoping to get measurements for the following:

- distance from the top edge of the cabinet (under the head banger) to the top of the opening for the hatch.
- distance from the top right corner (as you face the hatch) measured straight to the right, to the end of the cabinet.

Here is a picture of an SO42 hatch for reference:

If possible I'd love to get pictures of:
- the inside of the cabinet (out of the bus) so I can see how high the bottom shelf is above the bottom edge of the cabinet. This is the shelf that goes around the gas filler neck.
- the top shelf that runs from the front door to the back.
- the bottom of the cabinet (inside of the front door). Is there a floor piece or is it open?

Just a couple of hints/tricks to verify and pass along to anyone doing this stuff. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works wonders on cleaning the grit and grime off of the moldings. A turkey cooker pot with hot water (just under a boil - when you see the little bubbles) turns the molding into the consistency of cooked spaghetti. You can flatten it and mold it (get the wrinkles out) as it's cooling. Kind of like putty. Be aware that it cools very fast.

Thank you very much for the help. I'll post pictures of this cabinet after I get it finished in case any one want to take on this insane project also.

I knew that would come across as a sales pitch, and I apologize, but I'm really just offering pics and measurements to the online crowd. The kit isn't listed for sale. But while it is still in my possession, I'm glad to contribute any info I can.

Thank you so much for the pictures they are absolutely perfect. I do have just a couple of questions on your measurements (circled in red). I wasn't sure if the bottom number was 16 (as in x/16) or 8 (as in x/8 ). Can you let me know please?
