Mike, I have never heard of that, do the persons telling you this have a particular reason?, or is there confusion on my part and your asking about using something to aid in the installation? A good quality seal works fine by itself, no extra sealant needed... and you can use liquid soapy soloution and /or a silicone " armor all/ clear sheild" ( matter of preference) with the string method to put the glass in...

it was in my haynes manual where it says about using a sealant. i thought it a bit strange myself which is why i thought i'd ask.
the seal itself is brand new so shall i not bother with the additional sealant?
so long as the window doesn't leak once it's in.
cheers

I have never use any additional sealant (wait I take that back on some Karmann Ghia front windsheild installs it may be necessary if the seal does not fit in lower corners well...)on any stationary fitted glass... I say if you have good quality seals it should not be neccesary.
