I have recently aquired a 61 that is in pretty good shape and it still has the original motor. I was wondering what opinions everyone had on changing out the original motor. Understand that this 1200 is in perfect shape and runs like a top. It starts on demand and doesn't leak. Yet, an upgrade would allow me to keep up with traffic. This is probably a stupid post but I'm just trying to get some alternate views on the engine; change it, or leave it?

It all depends. Leaving the 1200 in there will make you a more cautious and prudent driver, and'll cruise at 65 all day long. If everything's in tune, the 1200 actually does have a bit of pep. If you're in a very hilly area, I'd definately go up a bit. If you do decide to go bigger, you can only go to a 1300 before you need to machine the bellhousing (unless you get ahold of a 6v 200mm flywheel). I believe in only doing things that can be undone, which is why when the 1200 in my car finally let go, I had a 1500sp on the bench. I went out and found the intermediate flywheel, put it on the 1500, and was running again for $60, no clearancing.
