| I've got an issue with a '68 Beetle distributor and a Pertronix ignition kit...The pickup fits perfect,but the rotor is way different than the stock unit...Spoke to Pertronix-they have seen this before and have since discontinued the kit- question is: Are there different dists used on the '68 1500? I have an "early" '68, and has the small spindles and tie rod ends...did they change the internals of the dist later in the year too? I'd like to keep the engine stock ( but ditch the points ignition ) The distributor is the correct one for a '68 1500 with manual tranny by the numbers...Anyone got an idea? Thanks in advance for any and all help......James |

| I own an original low-mileage '68 Beetle and the distributor has a "low profile" cap and rotor on it. I have used the pertonix on a later "high cap" distributor, but they don't fit on the early distributor as you have discovered. You will have to switch the cap to use the pertonix...not sure if you need to change the entire distributor. |
