Hey Bug Guys,
I have a bus and am not getting much info in the hinge department, so I thought I'd ask in the Bug Forum, because I always see oversized hinge pins available for bugs.
Have any of you drilled out your door hinges and replaced the pins with oversized ones? If so, have you had any problems with the integrity of the hinge? Have they cracked or broken as a result of the thinning out of the hinge material?
Thanks,
Doug |

I've wondered the same thing. Hopefully you bug guys have done this procedure and have some history on what it ultimately does to the hinge if anything.

I recently put oversized pins on my 60 rag. The pins I bought from Wolfsburg were 1st oversized and measured .317" dia. I had to drill out the holes in my hinges with a letter "P" drill bit. This is .323" dia. and should give you a nice fit without being too tight or too loose. you might have to special order this bit due to most of the hardware stores, that I have found here in Indy, don't stock them. Not much material was taken out in the process. I used an air hammer with a custom made punch to get them out without and damage to my paint or doors. Check your pins when you remove them to see if they just are'nt flattened on one side, then you would'nt have to drill anything.

| I had the one over in my 51 doors done, no problem, I took it to a local shop and had them do it cause I didn't have the necessary tool to punch out the old pin....no problems on mine either! |
