I have a 1972 beetle with a red generator light permanently on. I have changed the brushes and regulator, and still a red light. The problem I have with further fault finding is the wiring isn't all original, lots of do it yourself tape??? I have checked continuity though and all seems fine. But could you please help deciphering which contacts are which, In my manual D+ D- and DF are all close together, yet well labelled, unfortunately the connections on my generator are positioned differently. Two towards the pulley and one towards the rear (fan). Please help, do you know which are which.
Many thanks

| hi rik d+ is the post on your right looking at the motor which is a big red wire the one on the left is a small green wire that goes to your idiot light the only other wire you should have is a small brown ground wire that is screwed in to the body of the gen, near the fan.it sounds like the gen. is bad sometimes changing the brushes won't save a worn out gen.you can take it off and have it checked at most auto part's store's like kragen .you can also try taking the fan belt off turn the key on and touch the 2 post together and the gen.should spin if it doesn't it's bad good luck steve ! |
