Can a superbeetle's mcpherson strut front end be replaced with a standard beetle's torsion bar front end?

Not really a good idea.
The neat thing about standard beetles is that you can remove the entire upper body from the pan, and still leave all the running gear in place, since it all attaches to the "dogbone" of the pan. The MacPherson strut Super beetle broke with this concept, and uses elements of the front body to support the suspension of the front end running gear. Basically, the combination of the strut towers and the body metal between them replaces the torsion bars from the standard beetle. I guess you could cut off the front of a standard beetle body and pan, and weld them in place of the super beetle front end, but it would probably cost less to just restore a standard bug. Then you would have two complete cars instead of one bastard car.
