I took my '62 out for a longer drive than normal today. Since I bought it it's been sitting in the garage while I got it road worthy. I was able to get it up to 70mph with NO hesitiation (1914cc). However, I noticed that it is a little whobbly, and leans a bit in the turns. I am running 145's up front and 195/60's in the rear. Adjustable front end w/ new tie rod ends and steering damper. The car has no sway bar or camber compensator right now. What should I look for when buying these componants? Are some manufacturers better than others? Will this improve my handling problems?
Thanks,

OK, Dave, don't get aroused by this post :)
The sway bar up front will help lots. Since it's just a steel bar, I've never encountered a bad one, so get it from anywhere. I'd even check junk yards, just make sure it's not rusted away. The stock one is pretty skinny, but works. They're also available in 3/4 inch (stiffer) and for slammed cars.
As for the CC, I'm undecided if it's worth it. |

| the stock swaybar in the front will help a great deal you can go with a heavy duty 3/4 up front but whith those skinny tires it's kind of a waste!if you can find a 175/70 tire it would work killer it's about the same hieght as the 145 but a lot wider! i used the years ago can't remember the brand? as far as the rear goes don't use a sway bar unless you also use a camber comp. with it!! unless you like spinning out.if your also low in the back a camber comp. won't really help much.in the front you can also add caster shims which retores a lot of high speed stability! gene berg sells them. steve p.s. did you have the front end alignment checked? it will change when you lower a car!it has to be a shop that can do a full thrust alignment!otherwise your wasting money. |
