Hi Everyone,
I have a '69 Bug and recently the gas gauge stopped working. I replaced the small gas gauge part out of the speedo unit and replaced the floater in the gas tank. Does anyone have any ideas why it still isn't working? Please help!
Thank you!

First check to see if the black wire (it is the positve) to the speedo has power and is connected. It should run from the fuse box too the center spade connector where the 2 red lights and the turn indicator in the speedo are and then up to the "vibrator" part of the gas gauge...
Also check that the connections to the "vibrator" are tight and all too It could also be a part of the problem....
Take the wire from the sender to the gauge and with the key on "ground" the wire to the body of the sender or one of the screws holding it in and have someone look at the gauge... if it goes all the way to full then either the sender you installed is bad or sometimes you need to add an additonal ground wire from the body of the speedo to under one of the screws holding the sender in the tank. The one you unplugged for the test goes back on the connection on the sender. good luck... |
