| I want a Brasilia, pretty bad. I do not want to pay the crazy price tag. What do I have to do to get one in the US legally? (texas, it's like another country, but we are in the US for now lol) |

| Just get a 412! It's pretty much the same thing with extra doors. As long as it is old enough and doesn't need smog, it shouldn't be to bad. |

Hi Erik G.
I definitely agree with you a Brasilia is really unique and a bad ass upgright motor. I have one here in Manila Philippines that i fully restored and it really gives a lot of heads turned everytime you used it on the road.
I'll post some of pictures of the car later. By the way, how much does a Brasilia cost there? Here in Manila, Brasilia are not really sought out VW models its the Karman Ghia that is considered high priced and value here (besides the Beetles) because the Karman Ghia only 120 units were sold here in the Philippines and the Brasilia in the thousands in the mid 70s. But sadly only a few Brasilia remains since it was cannibalize mostly for its parts that were use for the Beetles, (like the tranny, disc brakes, engine, axles and etc.).
Happy to know that out there a Brasilia interest is high.
Cheers,
Steve |

Hey Steve,
I saw boatload of Brasilia parts in Manila when I was there about 4-5 years ago. Old warehouse full of DMG abandoned VW parts. There at least 4 NOS Ghia pans sitting in one corner. Maybe we can hook up next time I'm over there. I wouldn't mind bringing home a Sakbayan or Brasilia in good shape. Cost more to ship them than to buy them. Anything older than 25 years old is easy to bring to the US even here in California.

For the prices of a few Brasilias I have seen for sale in the states, I could vacation with my wife in Rio for a week, buy one there, and pay to have it shipped to my home port.
They may have the Leidig nose of a Type 4, but there's nothing Type 4 about them. They do have a few Brasilia-specific parts to them, but nothing too restrictive if you get one in decent shape from the start.
Since 1982 was the last year of manufacture, they are fairly easy to register in the states. I'd get one if one were reasonably priced and not slammed to the gravel. |

This is my first non Type 3 VW in the works. This time a 1974 Brasilia out of Brazil. It's in the country (Australia) now and should have it in my hands in a few days. Pretty stoked on this & can't wait to get it here. Should make for a pretty unique ride. Very excited!
