This is kinda of stupid and/or primative... but assuming you had an adjustable beam and already had the front end lowered to the ground...could you put a pair of standard air adjustable shocks (the kind you can fill at a gas station) in the front and fill with air when you cruise around and then simply let the air out when you want to have it slammed to the ground. You'd have to dive back out to the gas station and put more air in afterward ... but could this work as a really low budget air-bag system?

Is there any way to install an airbag in a sun/moon horn button? How about an og GT wheel? I'm extremely concerned with safety, which is why I drive a vintage VW. LOL!

Hey Ryan, we had a website that was just about up and the guy that was designing it and had a major motherboard meltdown on his computer and unfortunately didn't back things up so our website was lost. We'll post photos and maybe an ad on the samba when they're done..keep an eye out. Peace

orangabug, a friend of ours airshocked his squareback and it worked. If you buy a portable airtank, you wouldn't have to run to the gas station as much. While this is low budget, it's kinda a pain plus air bags are getting cheaper and cheaper.

So it sounds like my low-buck air ride system could work. I know bags are getting cheaper and I fully understand the technology... I just like looking at alternative ways that the average Joe can do things. It always helps to attempt things from outside the box :-)

There is a problem with airshocks, you can not ride on them with no pressure in them. The instructions that came with mine state a min PSI of 25. Personally I would go the route of coil over shocks and struts and use the wrench to drop them.

i installed all my bags, air tank, compressor, and electric valves and all the other fun things that go along with it myself. it wasn't too hard, just a little time. i recieved the kit from the airlift company. why would you want to wrench down your coilovers every time you want to lower your pimp ride. just hit da switch and let the ass just slide.....hit front to back ( i wish i had side to side)...sorry, just had a rap momment. but for real, its the sh*t because the tanks always full and ready for action. you can slam it on its nutz or cruise stock height til you get to punks kids in their parent paid for car. since their giving you a look because your in a vw bug and not a mustang or something new, you have to make them recognize by putting the front in the air and the exhaust into the pavement. as soon as they hear the air valves open and back drop... they know whats up. if you have any questions, ask away - brian

Why would I wrench it down every time I wanted to drop the ride height ? Maybe because in the three months I had air shocks on my car I lowered it maybe twice. I never was an airbag fan, I don't see the point to them. I personally would like more ground clerance, but my car is in the shop right now, had a little fender bender, so I can't play with the suspension.

the point of air bags is so that you can drive with plenty of ground clearance and still be able to throw sparks when you want. you probably had to get out of your car and let the air out of the shocks and fill them up at a gas station and figured 'screw it' do thats why you didn't use it. so now you would rather spend more money and hella time to 'wrench' down the height of your car? i guess to me, i never was a coil over fan, i don't see the point of them.

The reason I went over to air shocks was because my car sat so low in the rear. I wanted it to sit higher. Spend more time and money ? last time I checked coil overs were far less expensive than airbags. I would trust coil over shocks and struts more than I would trust airbags. I was never a fan of draging the oil pan across the ground to make sparks either though.

trust airbags??? Why not??? If people are using them on RVs, Public Transit, and Semis.....you know they're trustworthy with that much weight.
