i have been offered a industrial porsche 356 engine type 616/33-1 with serial number P*48902320. i can't find any information about this engine.

the only thing i have read that the 616/33-1 type is a stronger type?

the guy wants aprox 1000$ for it with beetle ignition, manifold for beetle carb and exhaust system on it.

i want to put it into my beetle, but as i live on a islands and only very few pieces and no specicifc mechanics available, i want to know if i can put it straight away in my beetle only adapting the flywheel?

the typ 616/33-1 is the best industrial engine to
my eyes, it's 1700 engine, with 356C crank, 356C or 912 head, aluminium rocker arms, 912 rod... interesting if you want the flat4 porsche engine for race or outlaw.....or if you have broken our engine !
and for this price.....if the internal parts is OK of course...
good luck

Hello flat44ever,

for this price take the engine!!
With a few upgrade how Solex carbs, other cylinder/pistons Set you will get the performance from a Super90. For a proper running engine you have to change the ingnition to correct once for this engine.
Useable are the 123ignition or original late version with correct advance curve. It´s possible to fix the engine in a beetle but sure you have to change some parts or convert it. Mayor point are clutch and starter and you have to cut some material from the side engine wall of the beetle.
I´m not an expert of all beetle modells but know a few person who has a 356 engine in their car.
