| All of the body work on my 1963 bug is done...it just needs to be primered down. when i purchased the bug, i thought it would be so great to restore it. Now that i have it, i have that "what did i get myself into?..." feeling. I dont regret it but i dont know where to start.Luckily all the body work was done, as i said. What should be the next step?...i have no interior (which by the way, if anyone knows where i can obtain seats that would fit a 63 bug, please let me know) so i guess it would be easier. Should i just remove the shell form the pan?...any books or tips that might be helpful, would be very much appreciated. |

i just stripped the car clear down..didn't remove the shell....
but the fenders hood wireing ect everything
every door know ect
then mask off the engine and the wheels.....
and spray away
coat the primer 2 or 4 times to build it up good then sand for days and days ...lol
to tellyou the truth i sprayed the primer in my back yard....on an early wind free morning....turned out pritty good and it sands down pretty fast
my car came pretty much the same way...once the paints done it's all uphill trust me
they look a ton better with primer on it....
good luck...

he's right, make sure you've got all the crap off of/out of your car before you primer it. if it doesnt have an interior, you might as well sand/primer the inside and get that painted to. if you have windows in, either take them out or cut them back so you can sand/spray as much of the car as possible. My 65 Beetle is in the paint shop right now, and taking all the windows out and starting with a metal-only shell was the smartest thing i did as far as body/paint work goes. this also allows you to change the color THE RIGHT WAY, which is ALL THE WAY. I hate when they are one color on the inside and another color outside... getting it repainted in/out isnt that much more expensive. BEST of luck, it's worth it in the end.
