View original topic: Ever Seen a Front Beam Like This - Trayle?
dave62rag@yahoo.com Thu Feb 20, 2003 2:27 pm

Anyone can answer, but it seems like Trayle is the man when it comes to front ends... Has anyone ever seen this before? It seems like it wants to be adjustable, but it's not. What the crap is this?http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/67498.jpg

Also... It had 2 sets of shims in there.. IMO, too much for the amount that this car is lowered. I remove one and now the bolts won't tighten all the way down... Can they possibly be too long now? I thought the frame head was threaded all the way through for these bolts?

Thanks,
Dave

God dam bro, that is a messed up beam, if your looking for a adjustable beam I will have one for sale soon. Let me know

(as soon as my GFK beam arrives) =)

Those are some old school adjusters on that thing......seen them before on my buddies ride back in the 80's.....they're kinda scary if ya ask me.

I bought a 62 parts car that had a homemade adjustable beam that looked worse than that. It's kinda scary thinking about what other work this ace turned out.

And if it had 2 shims, then they definately had to use the longer bolts. Maybe stock length will fit now.

a friend of mine has a wrecked 69, former show car that has adjusters like that, like mixedup59 said, probably from the early 80's. as for not adjusting, another friend of mine has a 65 with adjusters on his link pin beam. they wouldnt adjust and the thing rode like shit, turned out the trailing arms were pressed into place with an interference fit instead of slipping in. if your car rides rough, sheck that out.

now that i look at that picture again, i dont think its adjustable, it looks more like a tow mount or something. beats the hell out of me

Old school for sure seen 2 go thru this place for parts not sure if they are to lower or to baja. Both beams beat to shit ajusting rods bent, shock towers jacked up on the bottom. Get a good beam and bag it,or better yet stay stock

those one of the first lowered beams if not the first, tighten that long bolt and it will drop the front end

its a "select-a-drop" adjuster, bought one for my 64 about 15 years ago, all the advertisers had em back then. it turns the top torsion tube up in effect lowering the trailing arm. only problem, on mine it interfered with the sway bar so I took it out. now you know!!
