I've mounted speakers in my door and had problems because of water. I would recomend getting kick pannels for the front of the car. I think you can mount speakers up to 6 1/2 in them, but I don't know for sure. I'll look for the web site and then post it.

I have some speakers in the front of mine. I bought the kick panels at JCWhitney (I know, not the best place to buy things), but these are not from the factory so they aren't actually made by JCWhitney. The imaging up in the front is great. If Teufel is reading this then he can probably tell you what I have. Don't mount them in the doors because they WILL get wet. The front are component speakers right? If they aren't then you should get some, either with swivel tweeters or separate tweeters. Comment, don't buy sony speakers. They are a great brand for head units, but I just bought mine (well 6 months ago) and they are already starting to crack.

You can also get surface mount tweeters and shallow mount mids, that are water resistant, not water proof but resistant, and can take some moisture, or buy boat speakers, they can take water. You will get similar quality sound, but if the mids sound a little off, turn up the bass, who cares what the rest sounds like, as long as the neighbors are irritated.
Oh had 2 12" Orion Coblat subs off a 900 watt amp with a 4v head unit pre out, neighbors loved me. and then the rain came, and I found out the windshield leaked. Bye Bye head unit.

for u guys that had woofers under the back seat, did people ride back there? if so, did it mess with the speakers? I want to put a 12 under the left side of the rear seat in my 65 sedan, but want to know if it's possible to do so and still use the back seat. if not, can you do it with a 10?

Im not sure if putting a 12 under the back seat is possible with the seat. Maybe an 8. Maybe.
