Thank you all for your help with my other thread. But if you remember, I bought a bunch of crap and it just came. So my question is about getting the boots that I bought for the ball joints on the upper ball joints. Do I have to take those camber adjusters off, or can I just go without putting the boots on?

could anyone help me at all??? I am almost done and the only thing I need to know about is this and what I should use to get the torsion arms apart (open) so I can put the spindle in.

TimGud Mon Feb 24, 2003 8:14 pm

The adjusters have to come off to put new boots on them. Are the joints good? If so, I would not run them with torn boots because they will not hold up. I use a long bar and alittle swearing to put the spindle back in. Good luck.

Ok thanks, how do I take the adjusters off??? Do I have to get them pressed off?

Scooter Mon Feb 24, 2003 8:33 pm

Oh yeah the joints are good.

TimGud Mon Feb 24, 2003 9:33 pm

pickle fork.

TimGud Mon Feb 24, 2003 9:38 pm

or it may be called a tie rod fork.Soak it in pb power blast or wd 40 for a coouple of days if it is rusted on.

Ok so I do have have crap (I have a tie rod pickle fork and a ball joint pickle fork so I will try both) and it should be pretty easy after that right? Will the installation be the other way around. Just press it on? Thank you again for your help!

Oh yeah, does anyone know how to lower the back end??? Ive lokked all over and havent found anything.

TimGud Tue Feb 25, 2003 10:10 am

Mark the way they came off as the hole in the adjuster is off center, and when you reinstall it just slip it over the ball joint, and tightening the ball joint nut will tighten everything back up.You may need a front end alignment if not aligned correctly. No need to press the adjuster on. I have a website marked on my favorites on my other computer that goes over lowering the rear, and will post it this evening.Good luck.

Sorry to bug you again. But I used both of the pickle forks and they wont come out, should I just soak them in WD-40?

Scooter Tue Feb 25, 2003 4:11 pm

Sorry you already answered that.

TimGud Tue Feb 25, 2003 4:59 pm

A drift punch and a hammer will work too.

TimGud Tue Feb 25, 2003 5:26 pm

Here's the lowering info. Hope the link works. http://www.geocities.com/aussiebug1970/rearaxle.html

No problem.

Scott, if your ball joints still don't come out you may have to get a ball joint press. It looks like a big "c" clamp on steroids. Some of your auto parts places may rent them. Around here Auto Zone has a tool rental/loaning program. it really helped me. Also, once you are putting pressure on the joint it helps to whack it really hard with a mallet on the ring portion around the joint. Good luck. You can e-mail me if you need further assist with this and I will try to help. Big Al

One thing that would make this easier is to pull off the torsion arm,put it in a vise and then knock off the adjuster. To do that find the allen locknut, loosen the nut then take out the allen set screw and just slide out the torsion arm.Do one side at a time and just remember the angle it came out(not critical) at and it slides right back in when done. Regrease the front beam when done. It's real easy to do. P.S. Congrats on the permit. Good luck.
