I bought a '69 and a '74 Type 1 out of LA last year, the '74 needed a complete overhaul of the 1600. After I dropped the case, I found the original paint behind the firewall tar boards was gold. This super (with moonroof) had been repainted so well and so long ago that it looked to be the original paint, a taxi cab yellow. I found out what to look for and realized it has the Sunbug interior. The motor is now done, next step is to return this bug to it's former golden glory. Any production numbers on these? More importantly, where can I find an original OR reproduction "Sunbug" nameplate? Thanks for any help!

What did you look for that identified it as a sunbug other than being gold, sunroof, and sport wheels? I just got one and think it is a sunbug as well.

There is a picture of a "LaGrande" Bug. A "LaGrande" is the same thing as a sungbug, except it has fuel-injection. There are a few interior pics on the sight as well. If your car looks similar to that one, then it is a Sunbug. Here is a link to another website, and it has pics of Sunbugs.

As far as the "Sunbug" nameplate, I have seen them from time to time on ebay. You could also post a question about that at http://www.oroad.com/volkswebbin. Go to the forums and put a post up on the general and technical forums. There are some really helpful people there and they maybe able to help you.
