I have my '59 lowered in the rear with just a one notch up adjustment on the
rear torson arms. I want to take it lower than this though because the back still
sits up higher than the front. I'd like it to ride level. If I take it down another
notch, will the tires (165's) rub on the rear inner wheel wells of my bug??? It
seems like 2 notches wouldn't allow for a whole lot of clearance back up in there,
especially if you came across some rough pavement. Thanks for any advice, Lee

The splines on the inner and outer portion of the torsion bar have a different number of splines. I'm not sure which way you would want to go but by adjusting one up and the other down you will give a much smaller adjustment amount either up or down depending on which way you go.

This site should explain it better.

ive barely lowered the rear of my 59 and the inner side of the tire is rubbing. Could this be a 59 thing because ive done a search and i did not come across anything.

What size tires are you using, and on what wheels?

165/15's with stock smoothie wheels.

You're rubbing with 165's? Something sounds wrong. Where are they rubbing, the springplate?

yea it doesnt seem right.

Its rubbing on the torsion arm and the carrier(the lip) that acts as a bump stop for the torsion arm. Its got a lip that the arm can rest on when relieved from pressure.

What could possible be wrong though? There isnt anything else besides just moving the torsion arm to lower the height then just bolting it up to the axle/drum and reinstalling
