| stop sniffing paint and listen up. :D 66 and earlier have BUCKET STYLE headlights (for US delivery, these continued on in other countries longer.) 67 and earlier have completely different bumpers with either small euro guards or big US style guards with over rider tubes. they all also have low-back seats (euro kept lowbacks for base models) and they all had swingaxle trannys until 69 for US delivery. Unless you're in europe, in which case you could get a beetle with low backs, a 1200 engine, and a swingaxle tranny into the 70s. also, 67 was the first year for 12volt electrics, levers on the sides of front seats, upright headlights, and the 1500sp engine. People like 67s because they have tons of one year only parts, and some people lke 65-66 only because they have the bigger windows but still look "old school" and some people like the 64 and earlier only because of smaller windows, and the ragtop sunroof that went out of production in 63. personally i like the bigger windows, thats why i bought a 65. it's all in aesthetics, as parts are easily interchangable. Look for a nice original car that isnt hacked up, is the main thing. Unless you have time and money.... |

| And also........at least in AZ.....the 66 and earlier cars dont have to go through emissions. Also 65 was the last year for the link pin front end, and oviously ball joint started in 66. And another thing i like about the 67 and earlier cars.....no plastic dash :D |
