Where is the first place to look for gas getting in the oil. The engine is a 1200 and runs and starts perfect, but enuogh gas is getting in the oil to raise the oil level and cause the oil light to come on whene idleing. Also seems to be getting poor gas mileage. The engine does run great so it may be the fuel pump. Any input would be apreciated.

Definantly change the fuel pump, if it were from the carb/needle seat overflowing the car would not run worth a darn.
A pinhole in the pump diaphram will let the gas down through the fuel pump rod/block and fills the case up pretty quick in some instances.

It's possible the float/needle seat is'nt closing allowing fuel to weep. more importantly..If your diluting the oil it will do more to lead to engine failure than poor milage! Solve the problem before continuing to drive.

Or the fuel pump pedestal, only like 4 bucks or so, but if cracked, gas will enter the case.

say what?? a cracked block might leak oil out the case, but a pump would have to be leaking FIRST for fuel to escape, NO?
I don't think a cracked block alone will seep fuel into the case.

That's correct keifernet ! It has to be a combo of the two...My brain is a little messed up from the chemicals I used to treat my bus this weekend :-)
I had it once that both were messed up.
I only bought the pedestal (block) cause I had another pump laying around. That is why I remembered the block (cause it did cost me money and time, and the pump did not...)
Thanks for correcting.

Amsterdam, I wasn't slamming you personally, just making sure others who read that might not think just the block would solve the trouble... I too have posted erroneous info and had to come back and correct it and or had others point out things, no biggie , we all have that happen at some time or another. :)
