I found a 63 bug for sale in town that is only $500 dollars. It has very little rust and runs ok and shifts fine. It does have some dents here and there and probably needs new rear fenders. Do u think $500 is a good deal? thanks

i bought my 63 for 850 and it blew up on the drive home... no rust though yay... but some crappy pan repairs so i ended up putting in new pans anyway damn california white trash thinking a little duct tape will fix anything... litterally the po must have had at least 2 full rolls on the car one way or another

I went back and looked at the bug again today and noticed that it needed some body work in the rear area where the bumper connects to the body. Would this cost alot to fix. Would i need a whole new rear clip? Do u think the bug is still a good deal at $500? Thanks!

What kind of body work. Damage to the fender or damage to the rear quarter panel. Rust or collision damage? Collision damage that wrinkles that panel can usually be pulled out after the bumper mount has been removed, and the replacement of the bumper mount should strengthen the area again so that it is fine.

I dont know how much to fix, call a couple body shops in your area. I still think it's good for $500, I paid $650 for a un-rusty very original 65 that didnt run but had drop spindles on it.

There's always more lurking problems than you think for $500. But it is most likely still a good deal depeding on what you want the car for. i.e. Daily driver, customization, stock restoration.

For the cost required for the last two, $500 is not even a down payment for the work...

I can second that bit, for sure. I took mine off the pan and totally redid everything, and I will have spent, easily, $5,000 to get it painted, re-done inside out, and running again. You could spend half that or 5 times that, depending on what you want done. Still yet, not a bad place to start.
