Hi all i am new here i have a 74 Beetle with a 1600 and a H30/31PICt carb.
I just rebuilt it and well it still has the same problem.
When i start the car it will run for about a minute then die, no matter how i hold the throttle i cannot get it to stay running, unless i hold my hand over the top ofthe car then the idle pics up. I cannot set the carb up since she wont stay running long enough. I have disabled the electric choke so the butterfly stays open but this has not helped. Any ideas would be great. I have set the timing and valves and dwell and all, also the fuel pump is new.
Please let me know if you can help me.
Thanks

| umm... I think you need to hook back up your electric choke because the way it works is that it closes the butterfly when the engine is still cold. Whne you put your hand over the carb you say the idle picks up and it runs well? Well that is what the electric choke does, hook it back up and start the enigne and watch the butterfly, see if it closes. If it dosn't then you probabally need to order a replacemnet electric choke. I hope that will help you |

| Sounds like you have a vacume leak... check the rubber "intake manifold boots" for cracks and around the "end castings" (they may be loose /warped where they meet the head) by spraying WD-40 or Brake clean and see if the engine picks up speed and smooths out. good luck. K |
