Just wanted to blow my horn! After 3 years of hard-fought restoration (and a significant amount of $), I'm bringing my 67 Type 1 home from the bug doctor today! Bought it in May, 2000 as a basket case.
Some lessons learned & tips: get references for your body shop before you get laid out by a crappy paint job; 68/9 high-back seats will work in a 67 if you remove the headrest; you get what you pay for - buy high quality replacement parts; aircraft paint stripper burns your skin (ack!); don't use speaker wire for your headlights. There are many more, but I don't have time to list 'em all.

WOW! What a story! I checked out your website, and is it scary! But your bug looks great, and I can't wait to see the finished pic! I will keep checking back.
