| Ever noticed that VW's seem to bring out the best in people? It made me think of the time that I was driving frum rural Colorado into Kansas following the purchase of my 65 vert. I decided to stay on two lane roads enroute back to Ohio and stopped at the state line to take a photo. No other traffic on the road to speak of and an older lady happened by in her SUV. She said it was a terrible place to break down and asked if I needed any help. I thanked her and told her I was ok, then found myself following behind for about two hours on the road. When she finally turned off into a gas station, she made a point to step out of her truck and wish me luck and safe passage. It still makes me feel good when I think about it. :D That sort of thing would probably never happen in a big city kind of place. Anyone have any similar stories? |

yeah ive noticed that too. about 2 years ago i was on my way to Deutsche Classic in reading pa with my cousin, and the '75 me and my dad had finished restoring about 2 months prior had a bad alternator. i was convinced it was the radio but.... anyway on the highway and the car shuts off, i pull over and just as me and my cuz were about to get out and try to push start it (up-hill mind you) a guy in a 64 bus pulls in behind me and helps push start it. never have made it to the Deutsche Classic but that was nice of him to help.
then last winter my heatriser decided to clog on my recently purchased daily driver 1970 bug and it bogged down on me on Rt. 30 in York PA. the guy behind me in a Honda saw i was having problems and pulled to the side right behind me. asked me if every thing was OK. i told him i knew what was wrong and i could be off and on my way in a minute.
ive been on the look out for stranded motorists since waiting to return the favor. i believe in karma. but it havent been able to lend a hand to anyone on the side of the highway yet. |
