| Does anyone have a pic of where exactly to gound the transmission? I need to do this, but am not exactly sure where to put the ground. |

Nay bolt will do, many use one of the M8 studs on the side cover.

| If you have a pre1973 pan, ground strap goes under one of the 10mm nuts on front trans mount on the pan. The end goes to one of the 8mm studs on the transmission. Usally one of the studs holding gear carrier to main part of case. This would be just in front of fuller plug on trans. |

Any place on the tranny and chassis will work. Here is an alternative.

| Thanks guys. Kustoms, I was actually struggling to find some braided wire and wondered if I could do what you have done. That was really helpful. |

| I run a standard sized cable from the battery neg to the lower starter mounting bolt. S smaller wire goes from the neg post to my chassis and neg bus bar on the body. |

Hi all,
I just picked up my first Bus and it doesn't have a ground strap on the tranny in the previously mentioned location in this thread. I drove it two days ago, backed it into my garage and not it won't turn over. Charged the battery & lights and other accessories work. There is a ground from the neg terminal on the battery to the body. I guess I need to pick up a ground for the tranny. |

| If the ground strap is bad/missing would you still be able to jump start the vehicle? |

If you are referring to a jump using booster cables then yes it will crank if the neg booster cable is clamped to the engine/trans somewhere. When the eng/tranny loses it's main ground, most of the starter current goes through the clutch cable, heatimg and stretching it {starting with clutch depressed} till it eventually breaks.
Typical bus ground is in the same location as a Buggy or Beetle. As you already have one going from the battery to the chassis you can just add another. If your existing one is the factory braided strap or a 0ga wire just go from the chassis ground strap bolt to the lower starter mounting stud or factory location. Standard 0ga wires with an eye at each end are available in different lengths at most parts stores. If your ground from the battery to the chassis is smaller than 0ga you should go from the battery to the starter/tranny. |
