| I just bought a 63 bug from a guy that didn't know sh!t about vw's. I know alittle about them.......but anyway.....is there a way to tell if it is 6 or 12 volts? I was planning to go buy and battery and see if it will run. Thanks! |

| Probably the quickest way is to locate the voltage regulator. If it is mounted atop the generator- that's the round mechanism with the pulley and top end of the belt attached to it. It will be 6 volt if it is attached to the top of the generator. If the regulaort is attached somewheres else it is likely a 12 volt setup. Tob absolutely certain look at the labeling on the reguoalator and it will tell you which voltage it carries. |

You can also look at the battery - 3 cells is 6v and 6 cells is 12v.
