Doe's anyone know of a tire shop that balances the big 5 wheel in the Corona, Riverside area. I called and went by several shops and they say they don't have the adapter anymore. Thanks for any help. V.W.

I don't live in Cali, but maybe this will help. Try and fine some older mom and pop tire shop that still has the on-the-car spin balancer. You jack up the car a little and the machine with a roller spins the whole wheel. Make sure to mark the rim and drum with chalk or something so if you take the wheel off, you can put it back on the same spot. You have in effect balanced the whole reciprocating assembly. Also, I always wondered if you could buy a wide 5 drum, get a machine shop to balance it, bolt it to the rim/tire you wish to balance. Take it to a shop that has the balancers that grab the inside of the rims, but instead use the lip of the installed dummy drum. Seems like it would work perfectly.

Glandnut. I took a used 69 type 2 drum, had the brake surface area machined off, then a flat surface machined onto the backside of the drum to sit flush on the balancer and it works perfect. Cost me a few pennies but now I can spin balance my own wheels. The wide 5 adapter was no longer available for our old sun balancer and the bus drum was the only one with a large enough center hole to match our centering cones.
