| I'm having problems with the shifter in my 412 wagon. The transmission appears to be shifting fine, but the shift lever seems "vague". It doesn't shift into any of the gears with a definite "click". Is there a bushing, linkage or something else simple that will help the gearshifter feel tight again? The car has a billion miles on it (actual unknown) but the rest is really solid. Just selecting drive is a little difficult. Any help you can provide is appreciated! |

| You need to determine if the problem is in the transmission or in the linkage. Put the car up on blocks or jack stands and have someone move the shifter back and forth while you watch the movement of the lever at the transmission end. You may want to remove the cable from the transmission and see what it feels like to move the lever without having the shifter linkage attached. |
