thanks for the pic. maybe I shouldnt of been so vague, I am planning on tossing in a 5 inch tach. the location on the left is definently a no go thats where my oil, temp, and vac/boost is located. any other nice options? how about a bracket for easy install. Thanks again TurboedBug |

Some are mounted under the dash, on a pod off the steering column and in a cup above the radio.
Try searching the gallery.

I have MS, but I don't drive around like THAT all the time!
No sir only gauge I have is the speedo, and that's currently got a stripped cable spline so it's disconnected. |

Posting photos in my response has never worked for me, even following the Samba instructions to the letter. Here are two possibilities from my own Beetles:

The tach is from a Porsche 914, which has the same diameter as the Beetle speedo. This method requires cutting out the factory speedo opening, relocating it to the left, and welding in a new speedo pod to the right from another car for the 914 tach.

Another 914 tach, this time in a RadioShack "project box" under the dash. Disadvantage is that it's out of your direct line of sight. |

3.3/4" mini monster tach
Mine mounts with a plate sandwiched under the mirror
Hers uses a plate that screws in under the the visor mount screws
it works well because it's always in your peripheral, and you can't see it from outside. |
