My brake lights went out on my 61 bug. Where should the black w/red strip wire be inserted on the fuse box terminal. what else should i check? I have already checked the wires on the master cylinder and the fuse it self.

my black/red wire is connected to the first fuse from the right (under hood view).It has been messed with.
I'd suggest you check your ground at the tail lights first.
then test your wires starting from the fuse block on back to the tail lights.

do u know if there are two black and read wires connecting to that far fight post because one of them is already connected there. The difference between the two wires are that one of them is striped in a spiral parren and the othe is in a circle around the wire. but they both are black and red.
And even if i do connect the wire to that post the lighst still do not briten.

howzit, even though you checked your master cylinder wires, let me tell you something this might sound bogus but change your brake light switch on your master cylinder, they go out too you know!your black and red wire should be your brakelight switch off your master cylinder, if you got another red and black wire, follow it , that should be your flasher relay.oh! before i forget, these wires go on the right side terminal facing the rear standing in front of your bug.

so one into the fuse box and the other into the flasher relay?

actually there should only be 1 black and red wire to that far right terminal and it comes from the flasher relay. the wire that comes from the brake light switch should be black.follow that wire to the switch, and even though you did check it and it looks good try buying a new brake light switch, if you haven't change it in a while then chances are that will be the problem,ps let me know if that other black and red wire is on that first terminal too on the right.
