| What is the proper kind of fuel hose to run in the engine compartment. I just have plain ol rubber hose. The other day I went on a little trip and when I got to my location shut it off and about 15 min later when I left it started up rough and only went about 50 yds. till it died and would not start again until about an hour+ later when I let it cool off. I thought it may be vapor lock but I am not sure. |

Often when the wrong length of hose is used, or if it is routed improperly, you'll get fuel line vapor lock. Watch for the hose being routed too close to the heads or intake manifold. The heat there will boil the fuel in the line when the engine is stopped, which starves the fuel pump when you try to start it up.
Secondly, look for up and down curves in the hose. Too much vertical change up and down will cause weird siphoning effects which can make the line hard for the fuel pump to draw fuel through due to suspended bubbles in the high point of the curved hose. The Bently manuals have pretty good diagrams showing proper fuel line routing. |

Ditto to what j.pickens said. I wouldn't do anything questionable with the fuel hose in the engine compartment. That's the cause of most Bug fires. Be sure you've got hose that is supposed to be used for a gas line.
