What is involved in converting a 1956 oval stock master cylinder to the 67 and later dual circuit cylinder (in conjunction with disc brakes, cb or csp)?

Thanks for all the help people.

adding a reservoir with 2 chambers for fluid and some "blue brake fluid resistant hose", 2 stop light swithces and additional wires if you want the "redundancy" for the stop lights, 2 different metal lines to run out to the front flex hoses.

I'm thinking of this conversion as well on my '59. Are there any changes required with the pedal assembly or can you use the original pedal assembly with the new master cylinder? Isn't the piston size different on the dual circuit master cylinder?

Is there a need for a shim/spacer or is this a straight swap?

you know everyone said I *had* to change the master cylinder when I installed my front discs- I didn't, backed the rear shoes off a click or two and have been driving around for a year or so like that. nice high pedal with solid pressure- so far so good- I'm not saying you shouldn't, just saying I've managed (so far) without it-

I am more interested in the dual res than anything else...I have had brakes go out...very scary...ebrake kept me from crashing...

I'll get around to it someday- maybe i'll have easier access while I'm replacing the front clip cuz I didn't change the MC earlier-

Olskool58 I believe you only have to change the master cylinder if you have the one with a 17mm piston. You are changing to a 19mm piston for more pressure. You may already have the 19mm m/c in there. That could be why your pedal pressure is still fine.

Is the stock 67 19mm?
