Just looking to see if anyone knows a little more than I might about this model year and what it might be worth in "less than fair" condition...at least cosmetically.

I think its a 67-69 (right?), but didn't know the specifics from there as I'm far more versed in older VW models and as of late, Audi. I know that it is a fairly rare model with the rallye lights on the bonnet and being a Targa but I've never seen - and cannot find a single picture - of another one with this deck lid.

I want to offer this guy some money for it, but want to be educated before I knock on his door, ya know?

It is in pretty bad condition. Torn seats, cracked dashboard, chalky paint It's been neglected for years. I haven't seen it move from the block it's sitting on for at least 5 or 6 years! What a shame! I would love this for a project car/fun with the lady on the weekends.

Any help or pushes in the right direction is appreciated!!!

My apologies for the bad quality pictures...camera phone!

Looks to be somewhere between '69 and '73. Slight fender flair, short horn grilles, couple other things. The biggest question as far as value is what model is it? It says a 911S. It has an "S" spoiler and "S" deco trim. Euro turnsignal. It it is truly an "S" even in poor cosmetic condition it would be worth I'd say a min. of 10K. Rust and mechanical condition are the big questions. If they check out, it could be worth 20K or much more. For a base model "T", depending on condition, min of 8K to 15K would probably be realistic.
The hood lights can be added aftermarket. They don't necessarily mean that the car is rare or an old race car. Kinda a trendy look these days. Looks like an interesting car never-the-less.

At first glance years ago (under a car cover which he has apparently forgotten about) I guessed it was a late 70s model. I figured it could be had for under 10k.

Once I saw that s badge I figured it was more like what you've mentioned. Let's hope he doesn't quite know what he has! I mean, not to be judgemental, but he doesn't strike me as your 'true' enthusiast...at least not one of Seinfeld's capacity!

Thanks for the reply, by the way. That was very helpful! I think next time I'm down there ill knock on the door and get a little history.

Agree with jt912, looks like '69-72... if there's an oil flap door on the passenger side it's '72. Ask for the VIN if possible, it can provide nearly every detail of the original configuration. Euro lights and CH decal on the back indicate Swiss orgin. If it's complete and original mechanically it'll be MFI... and if that ducktail is aluminum, please pass the contact info along. 8)

Cheers,
Russ
