(Thanks Paul) I also picked up a decklid which i have to get underneath the green paint cause there's some OG Pearl white underneath!
Getting the cargo doors on where a bit of a mission, with all the rust and years of sitting idle...on to the pics...
Old doors..
taking them out...
New doors!
Got one on!
And both on...finally!
believe me, getting these one were no ease task...Im a Noob, what can I say :D
But things are starting to shape up!
I know those cargo doors...they were taken off a dead 66 deluxe here in TN...I had them in my garage for a while....glad you could use them! |

Great bus and way to bring it back from the dead. I love to see people who find a good score and get it rolling with what they have. Nice job.
I agree, we need more pictures. Let's see the inside and under the body. |

Yooooo Tyzel, Whats good bro! Dude, I have been just shit load busy, stop bustin ma chops on them pics :D I know I know, Im slackin on those big time... Just trying to make that money man, so I can dump it on that Bus! lol.
Ha. I took pics of the engine and the backing plates that I refreshed but have been too lazy to get em up here.
Im actually putting up my BBS' for sale next week! Yeah I had ordered some Jline wheels basically almost a year ago and since theyre custom wheels they took long as hell to make...well actually not really cause the wheels supplier was playing me for basically 9 months but thats A LONG LONG STORY!
So Imma put those Jlines on 16x 8 fronts 16x9.5 rears, theyre hot man, plus is something different. Fully Polished. But I actually was almost willing to sell both sets of wheels to get a Dual Cab someone was selling here locally! But I called the dude and left several msgs and he JUST got back to me today saying it was sold ( I think is BULL) so whatever.
Dude, that last weekend for you does sound like fun! Wish I can hang like that! Im sure WagensWest is always fun.
Stay in touch Dude! |

OK, so I left my camera home this morning when I rushed out and IT SUKS, i know, But when I was walking out the door I saw a package from the Post Office left in front for me and it was my Brand Spanking New Tie Rods that JONATHAN (FP) Hooked me up with! Jon, Dude, Thanks! So I got some work in the bus today. I was able to finally get my tranny and str8 axel out of my garage and transported to my Bro-in-laws garage cause I needed an impact gun to take one of the nuts off the drums, bad boy wasnt coming off. So I took the rear drums and shoes off to inspect, clean and prep for fresh paint. Found out that my rear cylinders are good! :D Dont need replacement! I save some cash there.
I actually got to transport a whole bunch of parts that I had been wheel wiring and putting fresh paint to them.
Also dropped off front and rear drums at the machine shop to get lathed.
Bout 2 weeks ago I got the front cab windows off to check rust damage on the from frames and I will have to do a lil bit of metal replacement.
shop to get lathed.
No pics I know, I suck but I will pick up my cam in the morning and will snap away for sure to shop progressssssss!!!! |

LONG TIME no post! Well Im gonna try to keep this short. Here's the run down...Last time I posted I was doing cosmetic work painting drums and whatnots, but I hadnt tackled the major problems on the bus because well, I have to prior experience with ACVW's, actually with cars period! I'm a designer/photographer and never worked on cars, or houses or nothing electrical or mechanical At ALL...
But my brother in-law got sick, and my friend JohnE Rodz (Fabricator) got real busy with his business and getting his own 67 Beatle on the road. So that left me well, just me with a HUGE project.
The bus was in my Bro in-laws place so I made space in my garage and brought it home.
That was pretty nerve wrecking b/c as u can see in the pics, I built a "dolly system" for it that was...well NOT like the ones I see here...
Thats because when I bought the bus I had a great paying job, but I got laid-off 10months ago and was (been) thin on cash flow.
I built that dolly out of material that was given to me AND it my first time welding!!!!  |

Made it home fine, Thank God, I was so scared lol.
Now that it was home I had to realize that this was a job that I would just have to dive in and do it myself even if I had zero knowledge of anything!
So I did. These are the areas of concern:

I started to do tons of research here on Samba.
Sold of my electric welder and got a Gas Wire-flux Lincoln Welder (220v).
After looking at the cost of repair pieces, I realized that I couldnt afford to buy what I needed. So I made a careful search to see what I can work with off the bus and what i could repair of fab myself. Challenge is... I never worked with metal or welding repair panels, sooo...
I decided that I would take the challenge of fabbing the pieces that I needed and see how far I could get...
I bought 18g sheet metal (Paid $35) and started to draw out some measurements and see what happens! lol
...Oh did I mention that I had NO tools!!!,
Yeah, Harbor Freight is my friend now lol. Ok on to the pics
This is what I have been working on since end of January 2012...
I cut the seat pedestals cause they were rotten:
Took the floor out:

I bought some seat pedestals from a Samba member and gonna put those in after I repair after I do the cab floor and A pillars. And I decided to keep my outer dogleg skins because Im gonna run this bus Patina style (as much as it permits). In another words since I cant afford to give it a decent paint job, Ill keep it as original (outside) as I can.
On to the pics:
I thought it would be proper to start trying to fab A Pillars, here's my attempt:

And after realizing I couldnt afford the divers dogleg I got brave and gave it a shot...
