Great job you are doing, it's kind of a lost art molding your own metal. I've just started cutting in to my 64 DC and finding some of the same rotting as yours. With all the different builds going on out there I am really inspired to get going. Thank you for your effort.

I actually live In Oviedo. Would love to check out your project. I have several extra parts left over that you might need that I would gladly donate.

Cblue66- Thank so much for the encouraging words! I'd love to see your bus and for u to come by and check mine out! And your donation will be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Its really kind of you to want to do that.
I'll PM you my address and cell phone and we can coordinate when u can stop by. It would be cool! Again thanks!

Jim- Thanks for the appreciation man, its been a journey figuring stuff out, but with comments like yours and the Samba Ive kept going at it! Wont stop till Im done! :D
I actually got a 63DC as well! Its sitting in California for now since there are no funds to work on it or even bringing it over here yet. That will wait til this Bus is done and I can recoup financially from it! But Id like to know more bout ure DC man, hit me up sometime.

Hey there ya'll (all 3 or 4 of u who actually look and reply) I'm back at it!
Story of the month for me:
2 Weeks ago I was cutting some metal and got a piece stuck in my pupil. I was wearing my mask and goggles but it slipped thru. I had to leave the next day to Phoenix for a job. I thought I'd be fine but I wasn't . Im a photographer and I spent the next 5 days in pain and could barely see from that eye. Thank God i was able to finish the 3 day shoot and came home.
Went to the eye clinic and got it removed...RELIEF!!! so I took a week rest and Im back on the horse.
Before I left to Phoenix I went to the NDBS and score a few little items:

Started for the Bus, a flipper that I needed for the Drivers door and and gate hook for my 63 DC!

So I started to build my pass lower "A" pillar, and after it took bout 4 hours to take the door off! Here are the pics...

I had to cut the bottom of the dogleg because it was really rusted out... I have a replacement for it....AND it also facilitated the removal of the door.

Sorry for the crappy pics...It was getting late!

dfusion001 Thu May 03, 2012 12:59 am

So I removed the rusted out pass "A" pillar and the top back piece was salvageable so I only had to build the bottom back piece and the front piece..Pics...

I still gotta grind, but that comes later lol...
Anyhow thats all for now, but tomorrow I get back on it. Hopefully I can finish removing all the remaining residue of the pass door seals so I can replace some of the rusted out sills ( or the metal that holds that rubber around the door). That way I can put the door back up and check the gaps for the measurement of the bottom of the dogleg so I can weld it in place.
Wish me luck everyone! Cheers!

Ive been looking at your build, good work!!! is funny cause i was in Orlando last week, and i didnt see anything about busses there, i went to the Port Orange show on saturday, and to see an oportunity to go and study there next year. Thanks for your words about my DC and all the wishes. Hope to see more pictures coming, and maybe go and see it in person if i make it to Orlando in August!!

Your work is very inspirational, especially since you are fabricating so much and began without a lot of know how. I understand how it is in the south, its hard to find buses that aren't at least this rusty. I'm looking for a project bus myself and this is giving me hope that maybe I can tackle this kind of work too.

Thanks so much for the encouraging words! It was def a huge challenge jumping at this with zero car, body, mechanical skills or tools! Just will and research and a lot of love for it. Im a very committed person, whatever I set out to do I like to achieve it. So with God's help and the encouragement of the Samba, I will get this done as well!

Ok on to the pics, a little progress today...
I did my best to line up that dogleg bottom...it was the best I could, it just seemed a slightly different since it was donor...

The I cut it too short and had to go back and make fit a smaller piece in between the original and the donor!!! That was a pain!....

I will start grinding some sooooon!!!! Ok so Im off to hit the sack but I'll leave u with a pic that I like a lot... Working late nights...
