Anyone try the foam seal as seen here:
http://www.vw-resource.com/seals.html#alternate
for their Thing engine compartment?
I need to replace the seal but can't pull the engine at this time and am looking for some quick and easy, temporary solutions.
Thanks,

Just use the stock seal.
Contrary to rumor, it CAN be installed with the engine in.
You'll have to remove the rear tin, the one the fresh air hoses pass through. |

| That foam collect water and then sends it to the body for a huge rust gathering experience Like Eric suggests use the oe part, Cheap easy one day job easily. How about just using duct tape? That would work fine but it would be very not nice looking. As usual it just depends on your point of view. |

| Too bad VW didn't up date the tin and body to allow easier use of the late Type 2 foam seal. The foam can make up for a lot of poor fit, say from a long ago accident, that would leave a cooling air leak with the stock style seal. |
