Hello oh wise-ones... So if I have a good '70 911 roller and I am going to put in a fast Type 4 motor, what different types of tranny choices will fit? 901, 915, a bug IRS, a 002 or 091, etc? Will I have axle length issues with what you suggest? What about the right starter, flywheel/clutch choices? What would I need with each suggestion to adapt to a Type 4 and the pan of the 911? Is there an easy street to this project?
Thank you all very much! |

| 901 - Agree completely. The Porsche 914 5 speed trans is 901 based - so flywheel, clutch and starter are all good to go. A strong T4 is equivalent in power to the 6 cylinder it will replaced so stock gearing shouldn't be too far off either. T4 even with pancake cooling should fit right in back of a 911 so great choice. T4 are costly to rebuild but not near the cost of a Porsche 6 cylinder engine. |

That is awesome information! The 901 it is...
Will I need to create an engine bracket to hold up the Type 4 like the 911 motor had on the front of it? How would that work?
Thanks! |

| Find or reproduce the rear engine hanger from a 76 912E which is a type 4 powered 912. |

Sorry to bring up an old post, but I couldn't resist. First time I've ever heard of someone converting a 911 longhood into a 912. Usually, it's the other way around!

| Third one I've seen in recent months. Earlier today on the bird or S Registry there was talk and pictures of a type 1 powered 911. Us 912 owners are glad to see the trend is shifting. |
