New brake shoes have the holes to do the 72 style as well as the others. They'd be 72 only as they have less holes.

The rear bumper is 72 only however what about the front bumper? I assume it is not specific to 72 since it hasn't been mentioned.

When I got my 72 it was the first vw I had owned in a long time so I was unaware of the one year only issues. Fortunately I'm not a freak for 'stock only'. It now runs good and I'm starting the cosmetics. My next will be a split tho I think

You would assume right. 68-72 front bumpers are the same.

The parts manual list two different part numbers for the Front Turn Signal Lenses.

(211 953 141 J front left/ 211 953 142 J front right) to the end of 71.

(211 953 141 P front left/ 211 953 142 P front right) from the start of 72.

Wonder what the difference was??

68-71 has a chrome like outer edge, 72 has a dull silver edge.

Mine was built 10/71, 2 months into production. I remember my tail light housings to be held on by nuts and washers, the (maybe 4 or 5mm) threads being cast into the plastic housings. I swapped out the grey part with replacements long ago, seemed the same.

I'm curious if the sun visors for the '72 are for that year only or if they are interchangeable. Can anyone verify?

Thank you.

sorry for bringing this topic up, but can anyone answer these two questions above?

nathansnathan Thu Feb 18, 2016 8:06 am

There's nothing different about 72 my sun visors afaik. I've got some newer Brazillian ones and they go right in same as the originals.

busdaddy Thu Feb 18, 2016 8:20 am

I don't recall there being anything odd about the visors in a 72 either.

nathansnathan Mon May 23, 2016 2:11 pm

From a 1972 version of the bildkatalog, you don't see this in the versions online, they replace the page, 16 becomes the plastic one and they drop this altogether.
