View original topic: Back Burner Old Style Baja Bug Turned Daily driver
shane red Thu Jun 09, 2011 2:05 pm

Over the last 3 years, this baja has slowly been put together using spare parts from other projects, free parts such as the 1973 body & 1967 pan (not ideal), & a donor motor from a glass buggy that awaits a newer bigger motor. The body kit I got in trade, it was made locally here by fiberjet probably in the 70s or 80s? The transaxle, along with the gear boxes & rims was found literally on the side of the road. Assuming it was trashed we picked it up for the deep rims & luckily we were curious enough to look it over & throw it in the car because it works so good for a free gearbox. The car really has been treated like a stepchild untill recently my brother decided to liquidate one of his muscle cars to supply the brakes, wiring, & "accessories". the last 3 years we had welded in new pan halves, I repaired numerous spots on the lower quarters of the body were it was damaged from being dropped 6 feet onto the grass while being moved... some free seats went in at some point. Now it's a rolling all metal beast except for the body seal. The rest of the build I'll post pictures of, Soon we will be installing door glass & pulling the front end for some fun modifications.

Cheese grater dash!

does anyone run this style setup in the rear? How do you keep it from hopping? or do you?

Locking collum to go in

Not much inside

Install this shifter w/special locking bolts to discourage thieves

Here's a custom made anti-hop setup for an RGB baja. I've heard that a company used to make anti-hop kits back in the day that you might be able to find used.

I was wondering what those bars were hanging down there, I figured it was to add strength to the swing plate.
