sorry but that would be a NO

Just wondering because I found this in a box that came with the car and an oil pump right under it.. Why wouldn't this work?

jsturtlebuggy Thu Jul 14, 2011 9:25 pm

You need to show a picture of the pump.
Pump would need to have passages cast into body that match the ones in the outer part you are showing.

Ill get some pictures tomorrow.

Agreed.

It's just the pump cover, they fit just fine and work well. Best part is that they function in addition to the stock system.

Occasionally you have to grind the fins just a bit to clear things when installing, depending, but that doesn't really affect things.

Perfect fit using a short Fram filter and mounted on a stock oil pump.

Yes it will work, but you need to know if you have a dished pump or flat and which one that cover is made for.

aren't the two styles the same on the "outside"?

Alright now just stop it! You guys are killing me!

Alex make sure you get a picture of the pump that was in the box.

The cover you have pictured WILL NOT work on a STOCK oil pump.

The cover in the picture has to have seperate holes in it to mate up with the holes in the cover. This style pump and cover are considered a bolt on full flow system and come as a pump body and filter outlet cover as a complete kit.

The pump for this cover re routes oil out of the pump into the filter and then back into the pump body at the main galley. there has to be a seperation of the two galleys in the pump for the filter system to work.

The stock pump just has a direct passage to the main galley in the block. The filter pump cover can be bolted onto the stock pump but will not flow oil thru the filter.

Think you are on wrong side of pump...

To get technical, it will work on a stock pump.

BUT, it will not offer any filteration when used on a stock pump. The stock pump will just fill it full of oil and then it will just bypass the filter and on through the block.

The correct oil pump will have ported passages to take the oil out of the engine case into the filter then return it back to the case.

Two totally different pump housings.

Here is a picture of the correct oil pump that is ported to direct the oil out of the engine to the filter adapter. Note the extra return hole that the stock pump does not have:

The ported hole lines up with the case hole:

The inside does not have the stock hole so it pushes the oil out through the cover so it will go through the filter, then back to the engine.

Dale Dale Dale.........:(

Thanks for the pics Joe! Hopefully that will be the end of crazyness.

I don't mind folks trying to be helpfull on these forums but when they try to help all full of conviction but do not fully understand it makes it hard for the new guys who are willing to learn and want to understand.

Gary.

Also to mention, it takes a special gasket that seals up the two ports so the flow will not short circuit and bi-pass the filter.

Thanks for posting the pictures Joe.
I am curious with the original poster picture of the cover with both holes being in line compared to yours with them offset, what the pump looks like.

Mine is a run of the mill replacement pump that when it was machined, the outlet from the pump to the case hole was not drilled all the way through. The outlet hole was only drilled in a short distance, then the hole from the pump cover was drilled to meet it in a "L" fashion. My pump could have come down an manufacturing line and some went to standard production and a percentage went to filter cover production. So my holes had to match the original outlet side of the pump and the new hole.

The pump that goes with the OP's cover is a dedicated pump and was made to be used with that cover only. Exclusively machined for that filter cover. His was machined to be a nicer set up with the even holes.

His is old school good. Mine is new school EMPI crap.

:?
My bad... not afraid to admit a mistake.

Dale M. Fri Jul 15, 2011 5:15 pm

OK.... So pump cover needs to be used with pump body with "extra" port..... Will not argue that.....

Anyway maybe I was thinking and/or confused about other style cover plate for full flow system...

Sorry if I cause any confusion....

Here it is guys. I do believe it will work because it looks very similar if not the same as the others pictured.

Now the question is, will these gears work with a stock dished cam..? 74 SB
