| why would you buy a vw truck for parts? You can get the master cylinder and other things you need new from a good supplier, hell you're in California aren't you? I wouldn't put used parts like brake components on your "newly" found 66 |

Yes, it is pretty much stock! I plan on keeping it that way. I was going to install an aftermarket radio under the dash, but just can't see drilling holes so I think I am going to get me an aftermarket glove box, take the original one out and put it in safe storage, and then cut the new one up to let the wires hang out the back. So the radio will be in the glove box, but at least I won't have to cut holes in the trunk area!
What ever I do to the car will be kept to stock or if not, will be able to go back stock easily! |

I have a husband, that is why! LOL I think he was wanting me to wait to buy parts to see if the reservoir on the truck would work. Today, (after seeing that the one on the truck won't work) he told me I can buy a new 67 model reservoir and it would work on my current master cylinder. He was never planning on using a used m c. He just likes to drag things out for me! LOL So I will now be ordering a new reservoir. I didn't know a 67 has a dual line reservoir, till he told me today. So I will be keeping my m c and just be getting a reservoir that will work with it.
He mainly wanted the truck for it's motor and pan. The motor is going to be for my car now and the pan is going to be another project he wants to do. I can also use the hood hinge out of the truck for my car. So there are still a few parts on it that will come in hand for mine.
Here is a pic of the truck. It is a 67 or down I believe. The fenders throw you off though. The inside looks just like my 66.
I will definitely be painting that shroud! LOL I'm not into red! |

| You can buy a restro sound radio that will fit into your dash without hacking it, plus its a modern radio with all the mp3 and,cd, amp, etc. They are advertised on here and look very nice and almost OG. Nice project, nice color. |

I installed this last night and there was no cutting at all. Just a thought.

Yes they do. I bought it for the mp3 aux plugin, my old tapes are boxed up somewhere. I just need basic sound that won't look too bad when installed. This one was cheap too. Like $25. Can't find it on Amazon anymore though.

Well, as of 11am this morning 7-21-11 she is all mine!!! I went to AAA after work today and did the transfer. So even though I can't drive her yet, she is registered and insured in my name now!!
Now the only reason I will end up going to DMV for is to try to do the YOM plates. We have a set but I'm not really understanding the whole sticker thing that is mentioned in the YOM thread on this site. So when we have a day to kill, I will take my plates down to DMV and see what they say. If I can't do that I want to at least get new white plates. My rear plate is all yucky looking.
Thanks for the link to that radio. I may try to get something like that. My only thing was I wanted to leave the stock radio in there so I had the old radio look in it. To bad they didn't make a product that would hook up to a 12 volt system that just ran an iPod and speakers. I don't care about tapes, CD's, or the FM/AM part of it. Just want to run my iPod. I realize they make those radios that look old, but are updated ( as mentioned above) but, they come with a cost. That cost isn't in my pocket book right now. Maybe someday after she is all up to par, I will splurg on something like that!! |

They do make stuff like that, or buy a cheap radio with an aux in and mount it under the seat, run the aux cable under the carpet to wherever you wanna hook your ipod up to it and your good to go. |

I have my kid (22 year old) looking for something for the iPod. He is pretty good at finding stuff like that!
Here is what I got done lately.
Not much but it's progress! :D
Before,
After,
Today I stripped the motor down so I can clean it all up and get it ready for paint. Tomorrow I am hoping to at least have everything painted and ready to re install on the motor.
Tomorrow is another day! :D |

The floor pans look very good, and rust free. Thats sometimes a big problem in the salty areas of the country. Looks like you have a nice shop to get all that work done in. You have half the battle won already.
Are you going to take the body off the pan, or just paint the floors? OK back to work. |

Somebody replaced the passenger side floor. You can see where they patched it in, under the car.
I plan on just painting the floor. Don't really need to take to the body off. This isn't going to be a full restoration project. The body and pan aren't that bad to have to justify taking the body off! I want to clean it up and make it look the best that I can. It's not going to be any type of award winner. Just wanted a nice bug to work on myself.
Yah, our garage is 2400 square foot. With 2 lifts. One is for projects and other one is for odd ball work my hubby brings in. That one gets shared with other fast projects. LOL The project lift has my 29 Ford pick up on it right now. Hubby is rebuilding that for me. I work on my bug now and he works on the truck! :D
Today I went shopping for paint. I got home and got my motor and all of it's parts degreased. Now this afternoon I will begin painting everything! Pics will be added tonight, I hope! :D |

My kid suggested that I just run an amp with an rca to iPod jack. He say's the iPod will control everything, not need for a radio. I figure I can put the amp under the seat and run wires under the carpet to the battery and speakers. I will let you all know how that works out when the time comes to install it.
I will take pics of the shop later and share! :D
Ok, I have been a busy beaver today! I cleaned and painted everything. Now before you all give me a bad time. My favorite color is purple. The cap on the paint can is much darker then what came out of the can. I also wasn't planning on painting the carb stand thing purple, but it happened and if I don't like it I can always paint it black.
Here's the progress so far!!
All clean.
Painted,
I have all the painted stuff out in the sun and I am hoping to be able to put things back together tonight. If not, tomorrow will be the day!
Only thing I need now to have a complete motor is a muffler. I want a stock muffler and will be putting my zoom tube for the exhaust pipe!
Hope to update later tonight with a complete (-muffler) motor!! |

Ok, ran out and took pics of the garage!
We originally built the garage to bring my hubby's business home. He used to have a VW repair and used parts shop. One thing led to another and we ended up getting rid of everything except a few bus parts. He went to work for an old company he worked for years ago and that was the end of the VW stuff. If we would have known then what we know now, we would have kept it all and sold things online. Back then computers weren't a big thing yet.
So here it is. This is standing at the front looking in. Keep the railroad crossing sign in the back of your head, I will show what is behind that wall in a bit!
This is at the back looking toward the left.
Back, looking to the right. Oh, and those tool boxes belong to a friend of ours. He has a lot of money invested in tools. We don't touch his tools unless he is here. That is another story! LOL
Ok, the wall with the R/R sign on it. On the other side it used to be the parts shelves. It is now this!
So that is my ( well hubby's ) garage! :D |
