Just wanted to share my story about meeting Bob Koch for the first time today at the 11th Annual Rat Fink Party in Acton, CA.

I was having some clutch cable issues that started that morning on the way to the show. By the time I got there I could barely get it into gear. So after checking out some of the show, I was going to cut out early to try to make it home to inspect things as best I could.

The issue is that I am visiting CA from Seattle WA doing an unpaid internship at Nickelodeon Animation Studios. So all my tools were back home (Seattle) and I really had no way to deal with it if the cable broke on the road.

So I met Bob, as he had some awesome rides at the show and we talked for a few. After chatting he realized that I was in a precarious situation given that I might not make it home and had no resources here or connections. He then VERY GRACIOUSLY, offered to cruise over to his shop and put it on the lift to check it out. Once in the air, we found the cable had begun to fray and literally was on its last remaining strands. So we yanked it, cleaned everything, swapped it with my spare cable, and got it adjusted.

Without sounding sappy; here's a guy who didnt know me from Adam, offered the use of his shop and tools...on a Saturday, during a car show, left the show to help me out...all out of the kindness of his heart to help get me back on the road!

It is so pleasing to know that people in this world are still good and pass that onto others.

It was a great experience to be able to meet such a vital resource to the VW community given that he owns Koch's Restoration Parts and Accesories...he is the steering wheel guru! Then to have him be REALLY cool, fix my car, give me a tour of the immaculate shop, and send me on my way with a handshake and a "get me next time" attitude makes it even better. Awesome Right?

So for that reason I am posting this story to hopefully inspire others in our community to remember we all need a little help sometimes and never lose sight of the bond that makes the VW crowd so special.

My humble and sincere thanks to you Bob Koch, you have made a friend for life and you are a great person. I had fun!

Thanks for looking out brother!

Ali

Bob is definately a good guy, he's helped me out on a number of occations with multiple cars. Ruben is also a great guy. Just recently ( within the last 2 years) they have helped me locate parts for my 58 and sold me stuff out of their own parts stash to make my car happen. I will forever be a customer of his. I have been buying stuff off of him since the early 90's and will continue to do so as long as he is around and selling stuff.
