View original topic: So I was taking a walk through the woods and..... Goto page 1, 2  Next

I was with my Aunt and Uncle in Clayton Washington. My aunt's grandfather had died and they had a big family reunion to honor grandpa and to bury his ashes on top of the hill behind their house deep in the woods. In order to get to the hill where the ashes were to be buried we had to walk up a trail that was cut through the trees. As I was walking up the trail with the rest of my aunt's family I notice something off to the side that looked like the taillight of a VW Thing, but it was a ways off in the woods from where the trail was and we were all headed up to the top of the hill together so we could have a short memorial service. So I didn't go check it out at first. The entire time the service was going on all I could think about was.... What's in the woods over there? So after the memorial service, as I was walking back down the trail with everyone else, I start to veer off in the direction where I saw the Thing, and....... In the woods behind my Aunt's cousins property I stumbled across a graveyard of awesomeness containing....

Two or three Things,
At least four or five Oval Window Bugs, including one with semaphores
Several Split Window Busses,
Two Split Window Double Cabs,
A Bay Window Double Cab,
Two mid-late 60's Karmann Ghia,
A Dune Buggy,
About five or so Super Beetles,
A Notch Back
A Square Back
Several Bay Window Busses.
Several early-late sixties Bugs

and a bunch of wheels, bumpers, parts, pans, and other random VW junk. I counted 43 cars in all.... All buried in the woods, I have no idea what they're doing there, but whoever owns the junk knows what he has because there are pieces that have been purposely cut off that seem to have been used for donor purposes to restore different cars. Plus, some of the small parts that are easily removable and easily stolen or easily sold have been removed. I.E. emblems, etc. A lot of the cars are missing fenders, beams, steering wheels. So it seems almost like a private junk yard of VW's. I don't think they've been abandoned. Some of the cars have license plates with stickers from as late as 2004. So some of these cars have been on the road relatively recently. Also, most of them seem to have some sort of body damage somewhere. It may be that they were damaged somehow and the current owner bought them cheap, cut off some parts that weren't damaged to use on another car. In fact, the owner of these cars might even be on the forums here. Does anyone know anything about these cars, who owns them, what the owner of them plans to do with them, anything?

Anyway though.... How cool is this stuff?

Wow! That's a really cool find.

You're about to be flooded with requests. There's some 66 ghia dash trim that is pretty rare.

Post those pics to this thread:

Perhaps I should have said, "they just haven't found YOU yet."

This one near me (I posted pics in the 'rotting away' thread)

Is calling my name...I think about it constantly, and then I think about my wife strangling me, then I stop thinking about it...for a while.

Nice, east coast woods finds are more exciting to me than the west coast. let us know how you make out.

It's not the bug Autostick. It's a #003 3 speed automatic favored by trike builders & us cruisers! 8)

Talk about a dream come true! I it were me... I'd trailer all those out of the woods and start working on them! I hope that's what heaven looks like! :D

Okay- reel it in folks. Remember the rules- the stories can be fiction or non-fiction. Indeed, all those cars belong to someone- me! The OP clearly trespassed on my hoarde. I am ready to share however, all the cars, except:
The Velvet DC
The '67 DC
The yellow deluxe
The oval sporting popouts and semaphores
The 11 window displaying a stack of bumpers
The notchback rear clip
The orginal Rossis from my (you can have the rest of it) red 66
The ghis\a with the uber-rare dash strips (please help me find the missing one- no you can't keep it, but I won't shoot at you)

And of course, anything else of value- you can have the rest...

dltracy,

Please look at the map link below and mark the spot where the treasure trove is and send the map back to me. I've got dibs on the Notch! :D
I'm going to take 395 all the way from where it starts in Victorville. Who wants to ride shotgun? :2gunfire: Or would that be handgun?
