Hi folks, I was searching CL for some jack stands as I had $100 set aside for it but I found a complete Oxy/Acet setup including tanks for $100....
I know about storage and usage... I checked, it has Flash Back arrestors, a decent harris regulators.
The question I have is about the acetelyne gas.... I picked up the tanks from the guy today and stored them in my car "mostley" upright while at work, and home again.... maybe they were a little bit leaning...
Anyway, when I got home I set the tanks in the driveway and went to the firestation for a meeting (about 1 hour) when I got home I cracked the acetelyne tank a second and took a good whiff and boy all I could smell was acetone (Nail Polish Remover)..... Will the tank re-mix if left alone for a while?
I already know the horrors I potentially face when going to the welding supply house for new tanks or refills, but if I could use this to heat those damned lug nuts up on my 73 SB I would be pretty happy!!
What are your thoughts. I kinda think blowing up would be a drag.... |

| I highly doubt it's fingernail polish remover in your tank! The acetelyne or any gas is under pressure, so it burns not blows up. If your regulators work might as well try to light it with your striker. |

Hmm... that is why I asked, what I read was when acetlyne seperates from acetone it is extremely volatile. Acetone is the active ingrediant in nail polish removal. My question is, will the acetone and acetelyne mix again to stabailize. I do not want to use it until it is stabalized. |

| I was just saying Light It! :twisted: I 'guarantee' it will light/burn. My Dad used to check for leaks with a lit match and you could see leaks flaring/burning a little! He was a chemical engineer and Knew what he was doing! |

You know how they say time heals all wounds, well... thats the case here... I guess the rule of thumb is to keep the tank upright for as long as it was NOT upright and the acetelyne will re-mix with the acetone. |
