View original topic: brake master cylinder problems - 96 TDI passat

I just replaced the brake master cylinder in my 96 TDI passat. There appear to be no leaks, yet when I bleed the brakes, the pedal will get pretty stiff until I switch to the next wheel, and the pedal will immediately drop to the floor and all the pressure will be gone. in addition, the fluid comes out all foamy from the back drivers side wheel. I have probably run through the equivalent of 4 of the small bottles of fluid or more by now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The line to the back brake isn't quite tight enough. There is enough play for an air leak - every time you put a pull (if using a suction bleeder) it's drawing air into the line. Take the line back off, check the end for any deformation of the tube and put a wrap of plumber's tape on the threads. Don't get any on the flare.
