I wonder if they started them part way through 78? I do agree they were put on 78's though.

Curtis....my diagram I made for this is as follows. Look at the bolt that holds the hinge at the rear of the poptop. From the center of the bolt measure 4 1/2 inches to the right. That is where the edge of the W begins. Come down 2 inches from the edge and that is where the top of the W is. Hope this helps.

Wonder if some dealerships "dressed up" their 78's to look like the 79s.

Amazing the extent of detail we get into with this trivia, isn't it? I know, I know, it's important! :P

With the prices going up the way they are-correctness=value

And here I thought the whole pop top sticker thing was only on Vanagons :-k

thank you all for your posts on this topic. I am glad to say i have all the exterior stickers on accept one. NOS Fuel Sticker ( thank you - you know who you are)

I will post some pictures soon. I am just beat. Had my first real wash and wax today. Boy he got a lot of area to cover by hand. Yep by hand no buffers as i was afraid to swirl scratches into the paint. I have few areas to posish to get out some swirls but all in all its looking sharp.

German replacememt curtains are in transit from Busdepot.com ( thanks Ron and Matt for making the exchange very easy and painless )

Started putting stickers on the interior cabinets as well. Only have the ones on the spare tire cabinet. The Westy horse sticker and CAMPMOBILE. Im torn on adding the others to my panels threw out the bus. I know its the OG look and all but I really like it bare at the moment.

Regarding the front westy decal . How does the screw on the pop top front fiberglass affect the placement? Does it get in the way at all?

I think the Vanagons had front decals. Never seen them on bays. Just the side "horse" ones.

Yest they do get in the way. I placed mine right on top of a screw, then painted the screw black. You can just make it out in the pic.

Did you apply the decal one letter at a time because of the curve of the top?
Or what was your method?

Speaking of decals, mine on the way?

No you figure out where you want it and lay it on as a whole. Its real easy and the sticker is forgiving. Piece of cake brother.

Well still slow going. Shocks, wheel bearings and horn now all working. Will report shortly on the Koni shocks ride compared to my old KYG.

What is exciting to report on is my tools have a new home. Now I can finally find things.

Repacking bearings found that my front right spindle was worn because bearing locked up on it. there was quite a bit of play when we checked and we thought it was just a bad bearing, nope. Thank god for bustedbus.com as they will have the part.

You've done a great job with your bus. Was that the original paint it started with?

Yes it was, unfortunetly there were to many blemishes and areas under seals that had no paint. To be able to get the level of restoration I wanted painting was the only option.

Been outta state for funeral and now in another state caring for my Grandpa till some other family can come take over. Hoping to get back at it middle of the month. Will have to see as family more important than the bus.
