Hey everyone! I am new to this forum but not to Samba. I have a 64 split bus, and I frequent that forum quite a bit. I also just picked up a 66 Bug so I go to that forum too.
Today I picked up a 70 Bay Window!!! So now I will be joining in on this forum too! :D
Here are some pics!!
Sitting one blocks for people to pick parts!
This isn't PnP, it is a wrecking yard Bob knows the guy that works there. A deal was made and we brought home the bus!!
Off the blocks now! LOL
It got a small dent from that, but not to bad.
Inside
Motor appears to be all there. Even checked the oil and it was pretty clean!!!
Continued next post. Not sure what the pic limit is!! |

Just a little moss!
I think the bus is called a Westy?
The tent part is well ventilated! LOL
It has all of the camper stuff!!
Has this bed,
This screen for the rear.
and this cot that goes in the cab part of the bus!
More to come in next post!! :D |

Cleaning it up!
The before of the rear.
Partially clean,
The back clean,
All the moss is gone!
Still have a lot of cleaning to do!
Engine bay,
Sink with table.
Tomorrow I will finish vacuuming out the inside. So I will have pics of that too! LOL Once that is done, I will slowly pull all the insides out so I can deep clean everything and start putting it back in. Should be a fun project!! I'm very happy with it! :D
Here is my Photobucket page on it, that has more pics!!

Yah, the best part is it was pretty much free! LOL
We did a trade for a car that my hubby got for free. So that car didn't cost us anything, and the bus is only going to cost us what we put into it!! That is a score!! :D We just lucked out and the guy wanted the car. We traded the car for the bus and a Cushman truck. I think we did good! :D |

Anybody have any ideas on taking those wax pen marks off the side?
I was thinking WD40 but that will leave an oily spot on it. Not sure if I clean it with Dawn afterwards, if the WD40 mark will come off?? |

Mineral spirits or "paint thinner" from the hardware store.
Nice score! |

That won't make a discoloration in the paint? |

Only in the oxide that you have to buff off anyways. |

Nice Score! And a great save of a bay. It's really cleaning up nicely. It's not hard at all to pull the whole interior out and that will make cleaning up super easy. Mine was nowhere near as dirty as that and I still pulled everything out and cleaned. It's worth it.
Keep the pictures coming I for one love Bay porn! |

| What a great find and save painted hub caps and all you my find that the engine has a mouse nest or 2 in it with that hole chewed in the paper hose. It is hard to say if it may overheat if you get it running without pulling the fan housing first. |

Great find. Looked super rough at first, but I'm always amazed at what a bit of initial clean up can do. Nice find on the child's cot too, those aren't the easiest things to find from what I understand. Please, keep us posted!

You mean that you haven`t found a rat yet? There are a lot of meals in that bus.
So now that we are all coveting your new find. Spill the beans and tell us what" almost free" is. Its nice to know that there are still deals out there.
That is some nice first paint too.
I sure hope for you that the under side of your bus is not damaged from the fork lift. Some times you don`t see the damage till you are working on some thing else and them there is stuff thats bent and dented under there. I would bet that it was picked up more than once. Nice find and Good Luck |

LOL, yah, I haven't found a rat yet! AND hope not too! LOL
As far as the pan, it actually faired pretty well from the lifting with that fork lift thing. (Can't remember then name of that thing either! LOL) It broke the drain, but it appears to be just black pipe that one can get from Home Depot.
It also put a couple dents in the lower sections on each side of the bus.
Here's some different shots of the bottom.
Soon as it cools off I plan on finishing the vacuuming of the rear of the bus and the engine compartment. Before the 3 day weekend is over I will TR3 the drivers side so we can then park it in it's spot. Then I will start to remove all the inside to start the deep cleaning. I will update as I go!! :D |

| What a solid bus !!!!! and that is quite clean for a old aircooled engine. that is a shame about those fork lift dents those area's are most of the time rusted out. |

| OH, and as far as the "almost free" part. My husband and a friend went in together on a 64 Impala 4 door hard top. Bob (my hubby) paid 55 bucks for the registration fees. The friend put out the money for the car but unfortunately he passed away before the car sold. :( This was a while back ago. The car has been sitting for sale but just never sold. The guy at the wrecking yard that had the Bus, was interested in the Impala. So Bob traded the Impala for the Bus and a Cushmen truck. So the Bus basically cost Bob 55 bucks. |

Ok, I found a rat finally!!!! It was HUGE!!!!
LOL
Really, this is the only rat I found so far.
Here is my 3 gallon shop vac after doing "most" of the bus.
I took the top off to check on how full it was. I could't get it closed again! LOL That is a lot of shells and poop!
The only other thing I had time for, before getting to dark, was tackling the markings on the sides. I tried WD40, that didn't do a thing. Then I finally found a teeny tiny bit of laquer thinner, that took one letter off with ease. Only thing is, there wasn't enough to do the whole thing. After trying some degreaser/graffiti remover with no avail, I found some acetone. That seemed to get it down pretty faint.
You could still see it though. So I found some Maquiers(sp) Scratch X. That did the final trick. I think! LOL, it got dark!
You can kind of see the shiny part where the Scratch X did the final job. Tomorrow I will TR3 the whole side of the bus. That will hopefully make everything blend in! |
