Here's a build thread of what was destined to become a parts car for my '63. This cars been sitting in my yard for about two years now with the main idea of it being a parts car, but I've been back and forth on saving it or parting it. After taking a closer look at it I've decided to save the car, but have a little fun with it modification wise. I WANT THIS CAR TO BE LOW!

The plan..
2" transaxle raise
145 tires in the rear 135's up front
Raders
1776
nice interior
a few accessories
6" beam
and a few other things, keep watching

At the end of this build Ill have a video from start to finish.

Had a pretty busy weekend, but I found some time today to clean the inside of the car out. Hopefully next weekend I can really start making some real progress...

Pulled out the beam yesterday... Im going to narrow it 6". This weekend I plan on getting the beam narrowed and start on the 2" trans raise.

Also found a fog light layin around and installed it

Waiting on the parts to rebuild the fuel tap...

damn thats a good start. im goin to keep my eye on this one. how do you plan to tackle the trans raise cuz im thinkin about doin that to mine?

Decided to tackle the trans raise this weekend instead. The rear package tray came out easier and faster than I thought it would. Also modified a solid trans mount to get a 2" trans raise. I plan on getting the mid mount made tomorrow and welding back in the package tray.

Started working on this yesterday and I was making pretty good progress, then the power went out.... So I didnt get anything done other than the mid mount bracket. Instead I headed up to my buddies house and picked up my motorcycle I've been storing there, now that I have some other projects out of the way and more room.

Its a 1981 yamaha xs650 with a TC Brothers hardtail kit, foot controls and drag bars by TC as well. Also it has a single down tube conversion that was done by the PO. Im going to drive the bug during the winter and build this up. Im going to go with a 750 big bore kit and I might rephase the engine as well. It needs to be gone through completely its just mocked up right now.

Didnt get much done yesterday... I spent a half hour getiing the transaxle all centered up and welded in the mid mount. Started laying out all the cleaned front suspension pieces. Im going to start on the beam tomorrow, also while I was workin on the mid mount my 135's from Coker Tire showed up. I'd like to run a 165 in the rear but if they rub I'll run 145's so Im just waiting to set the car on the ground and see what fits.

Im looking forward to following this post as I too wish to perform a transmission raise in my car. So from this pics, it looks like you took the 1" kit and just welded another inch of metal in place to make it 2"? Can you go 3"?

Its actually a transaxle solid mount kit that eliminates the stock rubber mounts. So its taller to compensate for the now missing rubber mounts. I picked up some 2" flat stock and spliced it in. You can go 3" or more but you wont be able to keep the shift rod in the tunnel. Im going to use a bus nosecone and hockey stick to keep the shift rod in the tunnel. There's really no need for more than a 2" raise. Unless your building a drag car and you want to run taller/wider tires and want to eliminate camber and have a set ride height. Also if you go 3" or more you'll run into issues with the fan shroud hitting the decklid hinges as well.

I was thinking the same thing......we dont call those parts cars in the northeast thats for sure !!!!! Hell, over here it could be rusted to the roof and its a normal project car !!! It amazes me what the people in dry areas consider too rusty.

Glad you didnt cut it up for parts. Looks real good. The XS650 is nice too, Im building the same style XS650 myself.

Set the rear on the ground today and a 165 fits now that there's less camber at this height with the trans raise. I just finished assembling my drop spindles so the plan is to finish up the beam today...

Nice build thread so far, I have a whole 2" raise set up also but no car for it anymore. So I will live vicariously through your thread :lol: Keep up the good work.

Decided to paint the trunk before I started installing the beam so I spent most the day prepping it for paint. Im going to paint the interior and engine bay also.

Also picked up a transaxle that I hope works, still no luck on a bus nosecone though...
